Why is our skin bronze?Have you ever wondered why some people tan more easily than others?
In fact, tanning is a natural protection system that exists inside our skin. It is the melanocytes inside our skin that will produce the melanin which will be produced according to phototypes stimulated by UVA and UVB rays. This melanin will settle gradually (in 2 to 3 days) to allow your skin to protect itself from the harmful effects of the sun.
|What can be done to tan safely?Truth be told, we are humans designed to live on the outside. This was the case with our ancestors who were peasants. They used to live indoors in the winter and start going outdoors in early spring to tend their crops. The sun is pale in early spring, and the skin gets used to it little by little in the sun, by producing a little melanin, which gives a light but gradual tan. This means that the body is programmed to protect itself from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays, through the skin which acts as a barrier. In the epidermis, there are cells called melanocytes, whose role is to produce melanin, which has the main quality of filtering ultraviolet rays.If the skin is prepared to gradually produce melanin, it will constitute itself, its own filters, to prevent the harmful effects of the sun. Therefore, the safe way to tan well, would be to gradually prepare your skin by temporarily exposing it to the sun, which will give it a tanned complexion that will amplify as the approach of summer.|
Why choose a natural sunscreen product?First of all, natural sun products use exclusively mineral filters, and not chemical filters (which can cause allergic reactions) or any other ingredient from petrochemicals: such as parabens (endocrine disruptors) and silicones (non-bio-degradable and responsible for marine pollution). One chemical filter in particular is singled out: benzophenone-3 for its impact on the marine ecosystem and coral reefs.
In addition, the mineral screens are said réfléchissants and will act mechanically on the surface of the skin by interposing itself against UV rays. And this is one of the main differences with chemical filters. In order to act, these must penetrate the epidermis to absorb UV rays and neutralize them. The penetration of chemical filters in the skin can cause skin reactions or be responsible for changes in hormonal balance in humans.
Another advantage of mineral screens is that they effectively protect the skin. They form an effective protective barrier that reflects, like a boomerang, UV A and UV B rays outwards.
Finally, contrary to what many people believe, vegetal oils contained in our natural protective creams do not fry (and therefore do not burn the skin) and are not photosensitizing. Many of them are naturally very rich in molecules that partially protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun. They contain :
- antioxidant molecules (vitamin E, polyphenols, ...) whose role is to fight against the harmful effects of free radicals at the origin of wrinkles, brown spots and cancers
- anti-inflammatory molecules (omega 3, phytosterols, ...) whose role is to avoid burns caused by UVB, burns that degrade the skin to the point that it becomes dead and peels
Molecules that are natural UV filters, and who have an SPF (sun protection factor) on average of 7
- fatty acids that protect the skin from dehydration and who will even accelerate its regeneration
